  Admission to the research programme with scholarship is highly competitive. We accept students twice a year (August Intake and January Intake).

Applications are usually open:

for August Intake

16 May of the previous year until 15 November of previous year
for January Intake

  Admission criteria  
  Prospective student should have a relevant bachelor's degree with honours at least 2nd Class Lower or its equivalent. For candidates applying for University's Scholarships (NUS Research Scholarships or the Lee Kong Chian Scholarships), are expected to have a bachelor's degree with honours at least 2nd Class Upper.

Applicants who fulfil the admission criteria are strongly encouraged to apply for direct admission to the Ph.D. programme as priority is given to candidates who apply for the full-time Ph.D. study. Candidates with good first degree are considered for direct admission for Ph.D. study.

International students are expected to submit TOEFL and GRE tests scores in support of their applications.

Our doctoral programme and master's (by research) programme are geared primarily toward highly motivated, self-directed individuals interested and with the ability to pursue research in their proposed field of advanced study.

 
     
     
  Admissions - Master of Science  
     
  Admission to the Master of Science (M.Sc.) is highly selective. We accept students twice a year (August Intake and January Intake).

Admission criteria
 
     
  Prospective student should have a relevant bachelor's degree with honours or its equivalent. Candidates with other qualifications and achievements deemed to be suitably prepared for the programme of the study may also be considered. Candidates are also expected to be proficient in English as the medium of instruction in NUS is English.  
     
     
  Admissions - Graduate Diploma  
     
  The graduate diploma is taught once a year and we accept applications until a month before 11-week intensive class start in May each year.  
     
 
Admission criteria
 
     
  Prospective student should have a relevant bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Sciences, Social Sciences, Business Management or related fields. Candidates are also expected to be proficient in English as the medium of instruction in NUS is English.

Doctor of Philosophy

 
  Our Ph.D. students usually complete their requirements in four years. Our Research Scholarship holders are supported with four full years of scholarship while they are pursuing their doctoral degree.  
     
 

Master of Engineering

 
  Students typically can complete their M.Eng. requirements within two years of full-time study. Students who are interested to pursue a doctoral degree, can upgrade to the Ph.D. programme through a qualifying examination. Many of our students of Ph.D. calibre have no problems doing so.  
     
 

Master of Science

 
  Students who pursue the M.Sc. programme on part-time basis, typically complete their study within 2.5 years. Generally, they read 2 modules each semester. Students who read their M.Sc. programmes on a full-time basis, usually complete their study within 1.5 years although a number of them do complete it within a year.
